The Aztecs worshipped the sun and believed in human sacrifice. This is perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of Aztec history. They made sacrifices to the gods so that they may grow plentiful crops to feed the people and sustain the Earth. They often sacrificed people who were slaves or people captured from other civilizations.

They also built very large temples to worship their gods. They drew hieroglyphics so much of their history was recorded. They also had a form of written language. They would draw pictures to relate information. Nouns, such as cat or fish, were easier to convey.

Maize, or corn was one of the main crops that they grew and it was very important to their civilization.

I guess the two main features of Aztec civilization that come to mind are that it was highly developed and that it was completely brutal.

The most famous aspect of Aztec civilization was their emphasis on human sacrifice in their religious rituals.  They believed these were necessary to feed the gods so they could keep the universe from being destroyed.

The second thing I would point out is how culturally developed the Aztecs were.  They were able to build a city that was bigger and cleaner than anything in Europe.  Their craftsmen were very skilled at building, making jewelry, etc.
