Napoleon becomes corrupt because of power. He and another pig, Snowball, use the power that they have to gain more power, which in turn makes them more corrupt. Napoleon then uses his power to exile Snowball and retain complete control over the farm, ruling like a dictator. There are many examples of Napoleon's corruptness, including how he uses fear to control his dog team, getting them to do his bidding, including chasing Snowball from the farm.
