Once again, we can see how deeply mired in self-delusion Willy really is. He still thinks that he's the hotshot salesman of legend, an essential component of the firm's New England strategy. But the sad fact is that Willy isn't vital in New England—or anywhere else for that matter. He's become a dinosaur, a man completely out of step with the demands of modern business. Tragically, he doesn't understand this, so he still labors under the misapprehension that he's integral to the continued success of his sales territory.
