Tex's real father isn't Pop, but the Golden-eyed Cowboy. A rodeo rider and notorious womanizer, the Cowboy gets his nickname from his golden-colored eyes, a physical trait he's passed on to Tex.

Back in the day, Tex's mom Clare cheated on Pop with the Golden-eyed Cowboy. Pop had just been sent to jail for bootlegging and Clare was so angry with him that she cheated on him out of revenge. Tex was the product of this illicit liaison. Pop always knew that Tex wasn't his biological son but loved him as if he were his own. However, his marriage to Clare was never quite the same after she cheated on him because of the inevitable trust issues that had developed between them.
