Here is an example using one of the minor characters in the book:

Sally

Character Decisions:  Sally decides to get married to a man who is older than she is.

Misunderstandings:  When Sally decides to get married, she assumes that marriage will automatically bring happiness.  She does not understand the nature of marriage or the ideas that her future husband has about marriage.

Environmental factors:  In this community, there seems to be a gendered hierarchy in which men exert control over women.  This domineering climate creates a "prison" for the women who get trapped inside.

Outcome:  As a result of the above, Sally ends up feeling trapped by her marriage.  Her husband does not allow her to have friends or to leave the house, and he is abusive towards her.  Sally tries to find comfort in the domestic setting around her, but she cannot escape the fact that her misconceptions about marriage have turned instead into an ugly reality.

When completing your chart, choose a character first and then focus on a significant decisions that he/she has made.  Then explore the factors that have contributed to the decision and its outcome.
