Mustapha Kemal seems to have been far more open to outside influences than were the early leaders of Communist China, and he also seems to have been far more sincerely committed to democratic ideals than they were.
I would say that they were fairly different. Ataturk was not trying to throw off outside domination. He was also trying to modernize his country (in terms of its ways of thinking) in ways that were not so clearly happening in India and China. In those countries, there was not the same sense of trying to break down old ways that there was in Ataturk's ideas.
