Hypothetically, what could be a circumstance (imaginary, but sci-fi plausible) that might cause a classroom of high school students to rip through "space/time fabric"?

All I need to accomplish (I'm screenwriter) is to have 30 kids in the room and teacher vanish into this "tear".  This needs only to be theoretically imaginable as it's for a Hollywood Movie. in a Potergeist tradition. Thank you

A popular sci-fi method for instantaneous travel through the space/time continuum is a wormhole.  For a great example of this, see the first episode of Star Trek; Deep Space 9.  A wormhole can be thought of as a fold in the space/time continuum, thus allowing instantaneous travel between two points that are normally traversed by a longer route.  If you think of the space/time continuum as a sheet of paper, folding the paper brings both ends together and the wormhole can be thought of as where the two ends meet.  Keep in mind that wormholes have never actually been observed in reality but have been postulated in theoretical physics.  One difficulty here is that I don't know if a wormhole could theoretically exist on a planet's surface, so you might need to have the class be traveling on a plane in high altitude on the edge of space.  But since movie physics gets a lot of leeway you could probably just let that detail go!

You can rip through space-time fabric only if you have sufficient amount of  energy, and it needs really enormous amounts of energy even to make a pinhole ! But for a movie you can manage it with lesser energy also ! Think of a student who was trying to make a movie projector kind of thing but he never tested at home. He did not study last night for that and was unable to answer his teacher ! Then ultimately he has to show the teacher his device. He did not know that he has invented a laser emitting divice of enourmous laser frequency and intensity too, when connected to the power supply it will flash like an explosion of extreme blue color and a fluctuating tunnel will be opened through which all of them in the classroom will be sucked in and vanished.
