For me, cultures come into play at work mainly because of the fact that many of my students come from a different culture than my own. In addition, different students come from different cultures. This makes things a little bit harder in some ways because the different cultures can cause misunderstandings and some difficulties.
For example, many of my students are from immigrant families. They tend to come from a culture that is much less outspoken when interacting with authority figures. They tend not to like to ask questions. They also tend to be shy about answering questions. In addition, there are issues because of the fact that many of the parents of the immigrant students work for parents of the American students. This means that there is something of a culture of deference on the part of the immigrants.
