Josiah Strong falls into both the categories of racist and nationalist. He clearly felt that the Anglo-Saxon race was superior to all others and that the country's founding by Anglo-Saxons was what gave it particular strength. In Our Country, his best-selling book, Strong made the claim that the United States was destined by God to rule over other races and lands as a benevolent and Christian overseer.
