Luke's Gospel points out the involvement of the Holy Spirit at every stage of Jesus life. When the angel of the Lord came to Mary to tell her what was going to happen, the angel said, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the Power of the Most High will overshadow you." (Luke 1:35)

At the beginning of chapter four, Luke tells of Jesus's activities after He had been baptized. "Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert..." (Luke 4:1)

When Jesus first announces His ministry in the synagogue, the prophecy from Isaiah He reads refers to the presence of the Holy Spirit. "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me..." (Luke 4:18)

Upon the return of the seventy-two from their journeys and teachings, Jesus rejoiced at the reports they gave of the works they accomplished. "At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,..." (Luke 10:21)
