How does the treatment of Dalit women in India affect women empowerment in the Hindus tradition?

The caste system has historically been an important aspect of the Hindu religion. The main groupings— which all have subcastes withing them—are Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras, with Dalits being at the very bottom, almost divorced entirely from the rest of society. While the caste system is technically illegal in India, it is still practiced to a certain extent and Dalit women are at the bottom of the hierarchy. Even when women in India gain new rights, there is a slim chance that Dalit women will experience the same. This disconnect hinders women's empowerment overall, as it would be inaccurate to claim that women have greater rights if only a small group of women actually get to enjoy those rights.
