He's bad, but he repents at the end of the play, and it seems to me that he is a product of his situation. He is an illegitimate son, and the only way to wealth and power for him is by being bad. I just think he is a complex character, though not terribly sympathetic. He's not like say, Iago in Othello, who is just pure evil.
You could focus on one character--examine his or her motives for behaving as they did and how they viewed the actions of the other characters. Perhaps it could be an interview. I personally think that Edmund is one of Shakespeare's most fascinating characters, and would be worth looking at in a project like this.
