An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

Although Sodapop Curtis is a dropout, he does have many heroic qualities. He loves to fight, and willingly comes to the aid of any of his greaser buddies when necessary. He is willing to marry his girlfriend when he finds out she is pregnant; and he still wants to be with her even after he finds out the unborn child is not his. He always tries to be supportive of Pony, convincing him to stay in school because he can succeed in life after graduation. But most importantly, Soda is willing to stand up to his older brother, Darry, and side with Pony whenever they have an argument. Pony worships him for it, but it presents problems for Soda, who then becomes at odds with Darry.
