Sedimentary rock is rock composed of layers of sediment from an existing environmental area. The sediment that makes up these types of rock and their existing rock structures are the result of weathering and erosive processes of all the rocks and organic materials from that surrounding region. The study of the makeup of these types of rocks can reveal minerals, crystals, and fossil remains of plants and animals. Their existence can dictate the presence of volcanoes, as well as indicate water flow, since sediment is primarily transported by water. Wind patterns may also be interpreted from the formation of sedimentary rock deposits, as wind can literally scoop soil up and away from the ground and redeposit it many miles away. My grandfather had a vegetable garden he used to farm years ago that had many sandstones in it. I remember the soil had a large sand component in its composition, it drained well, and generally produced very well in terms of crop production. By contrast, my father had a vegetable garden at his house, some 10 miles away, that had a higher clay composition to the soil, with virtually no rocks whatsoever. It held water better than my grandfathers garden, which was good in dry summers with little rain. The two separate garden plots have quite a story to tell in terms of their composition and rock content.
