Now there are 4 dishes for starters, 8 for the main course and 3 for dessert available to choose from.
We know that the person is taking one dish from the starters, 2 from the main course and 1 from the dessert.
For the starters there are 4 options.
For the main course, there are 8 options for the first dish and 7 for the other.
For the dessert there are 3 options.
Therefore the total number of options is 4*8*7*3 = 672.
Therefore the person can choose the dishes for the meal in 672 ways.
The number of ways one dish out of 4 dishes could be chosen = 4.
The number of ways 2 courses from 8 types of courses the man can choose = 8C2 = 8*7/2*1 = 28ways.
The number of ways one doessert from 3 deserts he can chose = 3C1 = 3.
Therefore , all the three types of choice being independent, the total ways the person can choose the meal =4*28*3 = 336.
it would = 24 combinations
