There are four deaths in the novel Lord of the Flies. The the first character to die is the pilot, who is shot down by an enemy plane, leading the boys to crash-land on the desert island without a single adult among them. The pilot's dead body lands on the rocks with his parachute, and some of the boys mistake him for the "beast."

Another character who dies is the boy with the birthmark, who is actually the first one to mention the existence of the "beast." It is presumed that the boy dies in the fire that the group decides to light on the mountain as a signal for help; needless to say, they fail to stop it from spreading across the island.

Simon also dies in the novel—he is stabbed and beaten to death by the group of boys because they think he is the "beast," and they don't stop attacking him even after his desperate attempts to explain himself and his pleas for help.

The last character to die is Piggy. Piggy is killed when Roger, furious from his fight with Jack, deliberately pushes a huge rock on him and crushes him to death in the middle of Piggy's speech about peace and order.
