Charley Ewell is at Acme Inc's branch office on West 42nd St, New York. As he flicks through a glossy brochure, he becomes more and more enamored of what he sees. "Enchanting" Verna looks just that: a gorgeous, Edenic paradise of a planet; just the place for a man thoroughly bored, sickened, and disillusioned by life on earth. Only a select few humans get to travel to Verna, so Charley will be in elite company if he decides to go. Verna has been selecting humans for the one-way trip for quite some time.
