Louisa May Alcott began writing Little Women in 1868. Several weeks later, this part was released as part one. It met with much success and prompted her to continue the story. Then, several weeks later, Alcott began the second part of the novel in 1869. Part two was published later that year. The two parts became one in 1880, when it was published as the complete novel we see today. The time she took to complete the novel could be estimated at about a year and a half to two years.
