I do think that there has been some reduction in literacy due to the fact that texting uses so many abbreviations and unusual grammar and syntax. However, I think email has increased our literacy as a society. People need to know proper grammar. The prevalence of blogs has also increased writing in our society. I just wish some of it was better!

It has changed how we communicate. We do less face-to-face communicating and more texting, and facebooking. I'm not sure what the result of this digital communicating will be. But the fact that it removes us a step from the people we are communicating with is bound to have some effect on our interpersonal relationships over time. It's just hard to say how.
