How is intelligence defined and measured?
When we are looking at the concept of intelligence we are looking at cognitive and emotional functioning. Cognitive intelligence is measured through Intelligence Quotient (IQ) tests. An IQ test measures a person's mental functioning including reasoning, comprehension and judgement.
Emotional intelligence does not look at mental or cognitive functioning but instead looks at how an individual is able to relate to others and form relationships within their life. Typically emotional intelligence tests look at a person's ability to identify, manage, use, and understand emotions on a daily basis.
Cognitive intelligence is used to look at how an individual processes information and is able to interact with the world around them and emotional intelligence looks at how an individual manages their emotions as a result of the interaction they have with the world around them.
