Women’s lives have changed significantly over the past 100 years. 100 years ago, women probably would not have imagined their lives being the way they are today.
In the early 20th century, women were expected to play a subservient role. Women didn’t have the right to vote. Women were expected to stay at home and take care of the kids and do the household chores. Women were expected to not share their opinions about events, especially in the presence of men. Smoking or drinking in public was concerned improper. Women were expected to dress modestly and conservatively. If a woman was unhappy in marriage, there was little she could do about it because she was financially dependent on her husband.
Today, much of this has changed. Women are working outside of the house and having very important jobs. It isn’t only the woman’s role to raise the kids. Women speak their mind publically and run for important offices politically. Women dress stylishly and smoke and drink in public. Women are no longer forced to stay unhappy in marriage since they can support themselves financially. Women have many more opportunities today economically, socially, and politically than they did in the early 20th century.
