This is a good question. Some sectors of the the church do not ordain women. Perhaps the most notable example comes from the Catholic church. All the priests are men.
The biblical basis for this is due to their understanding of the Bible. For example, Paul says that he does not permit a woman to have authority over a man. (1 Timothy 2:12) Verses such as this one persuade some in the church to reserve the priesthood to only men.
These people also appeal to the fact that all the apostles were men. They may also say that the early church leadership was also predominately men.
With this said, it is also important to say that those who hold this position allow women to serve in other ways.
The debate continues today and there is no sign of consensus.
