How exactly do Dante's Inferno's illustrations add to the position Erasmus has on freedom of will?

The connection to Erasmus would be that individuals have free will because sin is a choice. Even those who sin have an opportunity to repent and enter paradise through purgatory in The Divine Comedy. The lesson Dante (the traveler) learns is that man has the ability to choose whether or not he ends up in Hell. In the 9th circle, Dante chooses a different path.
