"Evolution" is defined as a change in fundamental characteristics. It can be argued that Alkmena does not undergo change to her fundamental characteristics and that therefore she does not evolve. Nonetheless, her progress as a character through the confusions and betrayals the gods Mercury and Jupiter set up for her allows her to outsmart them psychologically at every critical turning point and to be the authoress of the resolution, which honors and favors her long established belief in the goodness of the gods.
