Xiomara become more confident, determined, and rebellious towards the end of the novel. Xiomara realizes that her mother cannot stop her from pursuing her dreams or from expressing herself through poetry. Xiomara accepts that her mother may not support or in her poetic life, but she realizes that she has support from her brother, Xavier, from her friend, Caridad, and from her English teacher, Ms. Galiano; she realizes that support is enough. She becomes determined to share her poetry rather than just keep them silently in her poetry book. Her poetic outlet and determination carries her through her most difficult months of navigating her conflict with her mother. Xiomara bravely shares her poetry in the slam and is eventually supported by her parents and able to reunite with Aman.
