Viagra is a medication that men can take if they have difficulties keeping an erection. An erection occurs when substantial amounts of blood enter the penis. Normally, when a man becomes aroused there are chemicals that are released that relax the penis so blood can flow into it. A chemical called PDE5 does just the opposite. It constricts the penis, which makes the blood leave. Viagra basically works by blocking the chemical (PDE5) that is responsible for this blood leaving the penis. When this chemical is blocked, the blood cannot leave and the penis stays erect for a longer amount of time.
