Teen obesity has many negative effects.
The most obvious negative effect that obesity has on a teen's future is health related. A growing trend among young people in America, obesity increases health risks for teenagers, including: higher blood pressure, increased chance of developing illness such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, sleep apnea, and less physical activity and endurance.
Obesity more than likely will have a negative impact on that teenager's self image, especially since the suggested ideal body type prescribed by media such as magazines and television is a much leaner, thinner physique. Both girls and boys might feel that being heavy or over-weight makes them less desirable as friends or a possible romantic interest. Obesity negatively affects teenagers' self-esteem, often causing them to become withdrawn or have deeper psychosocial issues.
