When it comes to selfishness in Othello, Iago is certainly the main offender. His reasons for despising Othello are never made perfectly clear, and the multiple grievances he offers against Othello are questionable (such as his claim that Othello cuckolded him), but his desire to destroy the general comes from pure selfish impulse. He resents Othello's status and his passing over Iago to promote Cassio instead. He even seems to resent Othello's marital happiness with Desdemona. Iago is certainly selfish in his dealings with other people, viewing Roderigo, Desdemona, Cassio, and even his own wife Emilia as pawns rather than individuals. His callousness regarding their fates is a symptom of his selfishness: he does not care who gets hurt as long as his purposes are served.

While it is hard to consider Othello himself selfish in the same manner as Iago, he is self-obsessed with his own reputation and honor to a fatal degree. Othello kills Desdemona out of vengeance, believing that she has slighted him by making him a cuckold and believing himself to be an arbiter of justice since he is preventing her from "betray[ing] more men" through her alleged sexual corruption. This selfish obsession with his honor leads to his ultimate downfall.
