Odysseus is finally released from Calypso and her island of Ogygia.  After setting sail, Posiedon sees that he is alone in the sea and creates a huge storm to make him suffer.  This destroys his ship and Odysseus is then lost at sea.  With the help of a sea nymph, he is washed ashore on the the Land of the Phaeacians.  That is how he arrives on their land.
