How does Mond greet the Savage and what are the clues that prove that there can't be a world of Alphas & prove an Alpha society would fail?

When John the Savage goes to see Mustapha Mond (when he is brought there because of him causing the trouble at the hospital) he expects Mond to be really angry.  Instead, Mond greets him quit calmly and civilly.  He asks him

"So you don't much like civilization, Mr. Savage," he said.

The major clue that shows that a society made up only of Alphas can be seen in what happened when they tried to create just such a society.  They tried in on the island of Cyprus and, in just a few years, 19,000 out of the 22,000 of the people who had gone there were dead.
