Ultraviolate rays used in a tanning salon can effect the structure and function of DNA. A series of harmful effects are caused by an increase in UV radiation. Cancer is the best established threat to man.UV rays can cause breakage in DNA linkage and DNA alterations or molecular alterations. UV radiations are of short wave lengths between 200-400 nm. 200-280 nm is called UV-C, 280-320 nm UV-B AND 32-400 nm as UV-A. Out of the three categories, UV-B is most dangerous to plants, animals and human beings. UV-A causes aging changes and wrinkles. UV-A rays penetrate deep into the skin. Tanning beds generate more UV-A rays as compared to sun.
