Gabriel and his wife are in very different places emotionally. He is filled with affection for Greta, and, specifically, desire. He is thinking of her with lust, and imagining what he/they'll do once they get back to their room. Gretta, by contrast, is thinking of Michael Furey, a boy who used to love her. She's lost in melancholy memory of the past.
