Boo is actually never seen until the final chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird when he saves Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell; Boo kills Bob in the process. He is finally observed by Scout inside the Finch house, and she sits with him on their porch before walking him back home. Although there are many rumors about Boo being seen at night (particularly accusations made by Miss Stephanie Crawford), Boo only makes a few unseen appearances. He puts his presents in the knothole of the Radley oak at various times--almost certainly at night, since he is never witnessed. His shadow is seen on the Radley porch by Jem, Scout and Dill; later that night, he retrieves Jem's pants from the collard patch and mends them. And on the night of Miss Maudie's house fire, Boo places a blanket over Scout's shoulders to warm her during the cold evening.
