A topic sentence is an initial general statement that describes what a paragraph will discuss.

In this case, you are asked to write an opinion rather than simply provide information, so your topic sentence will function more like a thesis statement. You therefore need to state boldly that solar energy offers positive benefits. But you also want to make sure your topic sentence is specific enough to direct your reader towards what you are going to discuss in this particular paragraph.

Therefore, you don't simply want to write: "I support solar energy" or "Solar energy is beneficial." You want to specify the specific ways in which it is beneficial which you will to discuss in that paragraph. For example, you might want to say, "A major benefit of solar energy is that it doesn't create environmentally hazardous wastes." Your details would then describe how other forms of energy do create these wastes.

It may seem confusing that a topic sentence must be both general and specific, but the rule of thumb is simple: while it is the most general statement in a paragraph, it also needs to be specific enough to explain what you plan to discuss in that paragraph. Think of the rest of the paragraph's sentences as fleshing out the topic sentence and supporting it.

A topic sentence needs to tell the reader what you are going to talk about in your paragraph.  As the link below says, a topic sentence is

a general sentence that provides a very broad, sneak peek into the specifics of your paragraph.

This means that you have to decide why solar energy is good before you write your topic sentence.  So, first you need to know what your argument will be.

For example, if you want to talk about environmental reasons for using solar power, you should say something like "As global climate change becomes a bigger and bigger problem, it becomes more important to support the use of solar energy."

Alternatively, you might want to talk about energy security.  You might say "Because much of the fossil fuels we use has to be imported, it is important for us to develop domestic sources of energy such as solar power."

These sentences give the "broad sneak peek" mentioned in the link.
