We are so much more connected due to technology. Although it adds stress, we can work from home with the Internet and communicate with friends and family constantly through texting, email, and video chat as well as the traditional regular phone call.

It is true that technology saves us time but at the same time it has made our lives much busier. Maybe this is because now that we have the extra time we feel the need to fill this extra time. Since technology is at our fingertips we choose to use it more.

From a personal point of view, I am surprised and amazed that, in spite of technological advances that have shocked us all, lives have not become easier as promised, but we seem to be ever busier and our lives are more and more crowded. Something does not seem to be going right - technology promises to save us time yet we just seem to have more and more work.

Science and technology has contributed to make our lives comfortable by providing us with necessities of life such as food and protection from adverse environmental conditions such as cold, heat, and rain. It has also provided us with means of performing difficult and unpleasant tasks using sophisticated appliances and equipments. It has also added to our entertainment and pleasure by providing so many different products and facilities for our enjoyment. The advances in medical sciences has enabled us to fight diseases and live longer. All these are positive aspects of science and technology.

The most obvious negative aspects is the degradation on quality of environment. The environmental degradation has damaged and destroyed so many of the beautiful, enjoyable and useful aspects of the nature including, forests, seas, landscapes, flora and fauna. There is rampant pollution of all kinds. All this has take away fro us for ever valuable sources of joy and satisfaction.

The environmental pollution has now reached such levels that it threatens to make large portion of the plant earth inhabitable. in addition to making life on most other parts very difficult and unpleasant.

The travails of urbanization including, living in crowded homes, traffic jams, and pollution is a problem which closely resembles that of pollution. The crowding and long hours of commuting that are common features for people living, working, or visiting urban areas has considerably reduced the quality of life for people. Unfortunately the percentage of people living in urban already exceeds those living in rural areas, and this percentage i increasing fast.

While science and technology has given us many means of making our lives better, safer and easier, it has also created powerful means of hurting and destroying life. Most of the developed countries as well as some of the not so developed countries spend a large amount of resources to develop and build means of mass destruction for waging war. This is definitely one of the major threats posed to peace and prosperity humanity by science and technology.

Finally, though science and technology has provides us with so many physical means of comfort and luxury, it is doubtful if these have really added to true peace and happiness of people. It is really doubtful if the poor artisan of a eighteenth century who  mostly worked at home but was forced to walk a few miles some time because he had no car or other means of transport, was less happy than the person who is forced to drive his car in heavy traffic two hours a day. Also the spirit of "keeping up with the Joneses" and the rat race in work environment has taken heavy toll of peace and happiness of people.
