In Salvage the BonesSkeetah is a fiercely loving and loyal brother who ironically still engages in the harsh practice of dog fighting.  Skeetah is like an overprotective father when it comes to China, and he looks over her and her puppies with love and attention.  Similarly, he is loving and loyal towards Esch--in the end, he makes a tough decision (for him) to let China fend for herself in the flood waters so that he can save his sister Esch from drowning and being swept away in the water.  But even after the storm, Skeetah does not give up on finding and saving China, and before the water has completely receded, he goes to look for her.  Ironically, Skeetah engages in dog fighting, and in the pits, he sees dogs literally get ripped to shreds.  There is a sense of power and dominance among the boys who own the dogs in the dog fighting pits, and Skeetah gets a sense of pride being the owner of such a great fighting dog.
