I think that one of the biggest advancements in technology in the last five years is the increased ease of access for...everything! Now with high resolution touch screens, like on iPads or iPhones, consumers can serve all of their entertainment needs through the same device: listen to music, watch video, surf the 'net, read a book, play video games. Hand-held technology has completely revolutionized the way we entertain ourselves, making it much more accessible from any location and on a much more individual level.
I sometimes wind my self-powered, wind-up flashlight just for the fun of it, but I suppose I am easily entertained.
Computer games, television, movies, internet surfing, social media and the whole heap of conventional ways to divert ourselves come to mind as ways we entertain ourselves with technology. Most of them are more fun than winding up a flashlight.
Technology has provided us with a plethora of entertainment options. There are social media sites and new media that serve as entertainment. There is television and movies. There's also a number of gaming consoles and a vast amount of games for each. The Internet is full of entertainment as well as information. There are websites that allow you to stream movies or television over the internet. There are sites devoted to short video clips and pictures often separated by theme.
Yes, technology plays a large role in our entertainment. Many forms exist:television, movies, computers, video games, radio and music, and music CD's are a few examples. The internet also plays a huge role in our entertainment.
I would say television remains the most prominent form of entertainment for most people. The internet, though, is obviously very close behind, and gaining. Judging by my visit to an area museum today, I would say that handheld gaming devices are also pretty popular.
As a youngster in the '60s, I listened to vinyl records; today I listen to CDs and downloaded music. In the '60s, TV was restricted to little more than the three major networks (NBC, CBS, ABC); today, I have hundreds of channels from which to choose. When movies were once only able to be viewed in theatres, I can now watch movies at home via DVD. When once books and libraries were the prime source of resource material, I now have access to millions of subjects via Google and other search engines.
We have access to an incredible amount of entertainment now. It wasn't too long ago that you had to be in a certain room to watch something on tv or listen to something on a receiver. Now we take it all with us all the time in the form of little music players, smart phones, and tablet computers.
It's the same kind of entertainment (music, video, game playing), but it's with us all the time now.
There are so many ways that we do this. After all, everything down to TV and radio is technology. So we entertain ourselves using TVs and radios. In a more high-tech way, we entertain ourselves using video games. We use then internet on our smartphones. All of these are types of entertainment that use technology.
Technology allows people to entertain themselves through game playing, searching out exotic locations, plan vacations (via virtual tours and comparing vacation sites), video calls, and 3-D movies. Given our immersion in technology, for many, technology is entertainment, necessity, business, and reality.
