Growth factors are naturally occurring chemicals that stimulate the growth of organisms thus can affect cell proliferation and differentiation. It is generally a protein or a steroid which is essential in dealing with metabolism of the cells and eventually the entire organism. Growth factors were found to stimulate the cell cycle from G0 phase -> G1 phase. From the resting phase (G0) where the cells stop from dividing (from the previous cell division), growth factors can stimulate to go to the G1 phase where the cell start to increase its size thus preparing the cell for DNA synthesis (S phase). Growth factor can increase the rate at which cell population grows.
