Gene is focused on his academics and doesn't put much stock in athletics.  He is studious, concientious, responsible, and careful.  He thinks his decisions through and is calculated with every move.

Finny puts his emphasis on athletics and puts little effort into his studies.  He is carefree, fun loving, aloof, and fearless.  He is spontaneous and shows no fear of authority figures or any consequences for that matter.
