The force exercised by the weight of a liquid at rest, per unit area on the walls of the container is called "hydrostatic pressure". To calculate the hydrostatic pressure in a liquid, we apply the following expression:

P = ρ*g*h

Where:

P, is the hydrostatic pressure.

ρ, is the density of the liquid.

g, is the acceleration of gravity.

h, is the height of the fluid column.

The formula shows that the pressure is directly proportional to the height of the column of liquid and the density of the liquid. In addition; the pressure is independent of the shape of the container.

According to the physical magnitudes in the above equation, the unit of pressure in the International System is the Newton per square meter (N/m^2). Also, can be expressed in Pascal (Pa); one Pascal is equivalent to one Newton per square meter.
