Most of the other kids at the People's Center spend their free time running around and playing. But not Delphine and Fern; they're different. Instead of engaging in such childish pursuits, they prefer to help out with chores.

And not just any old chores, either. As this is the nerve center of Black Panther activity in Oakland, even chores have a radical political edge to them. Delphine and Fern spend their free time counting and stacking Black Panther newspapers. As she's doing this Delphine notices that the newspapers contain many photos of Huey Newton, who to her looks kind of cool. In fact, Delphine becomes so deeply engrossed in reading a newspaper that she stops doing her chores and buys a copy instead.
