Some of the benefits to Australia from the British Empire are governmental rather than cultural. Australia grew to nationhood with a governmental system all ready in place for democratic parliamentary rule. In addition, colleges and universities were established early on and benefited from their Cambridge and Oxford models. A disadvantage of British rule is the forced acculturation alternating with the marginalization of the indigenous peoples.
