One possibility for an essay comparing Goethe's Faust Part I & II with Shakespeare's The Tempest would to be to explore the theme of illusion, which plays a prominent role in each drama. In Faust, illusion is prominent because one of the central characters is Mephistopheles who specializes in illusion. You might examine his first entrance as a dog in "City Gate" and "Study" as well as examining "Auerbach's Cellar" for Mephistopheles famous drinking illusion. You might focus on character reactions.

The Tempest centers around the thematic element of illusion. You might examine different character's reaction to the illusions they witness, like Gonzalo's reaction in Act III, Scene 3, 27-28. You might also examine how the atmosphere of Prospero's Island affects the various characters.
