My essay explains the importance of dreams and how they affect people and their theocratic views. I have to tie the contents in with Shadow's dreams from Neil Gaiman's book "American Gods". I want to show that dreams are possible since they are "God's way to communicate to people."
Any time you are creating a thesis statement based on a work of literature, it is important to center the subtopics on different events within the story. This leaves you with a few options. You already have your statement of purpose--that is, "Dreams are God's connection to people." Now you have to explain your subtopics, which require you to determine which of these best supports the focal statement.
For instance, if you are suggesting that "Dreams are God's way to communicate with people" based on three different dreams Shadow has, you can list them and it would read as follows: "Dreams are God's way to communicate with people based on A, B, and C."
