This key to writing a good paper is to have a good thesis statement. If you have a good thesis statement, then you are well on your way. Your thesis is cigarettes are addictive. What you need to do next is ask why they are addictive. In other words, you need good supporting details to make your thesis or main argument cogent. In a research paper of ten pages, I would say that you should have around three main points.
These main points will serve as your body paragraphs. You may want to give evidence of how cigarettes are addictive from a scientific point of view. Whatever you write keep in mind that there will be skeptics out there.
In light of this point, you may want to anticipate counter-arguments and address them. In this way, your readers will know that you are a thoughtful person.
If the title of your paper is "Why cigarettes are addictive?", then you have to have in the back of your mind the following: definition of cigarette and definition of addiction. Relate them to each other.
Depending on what you are specializing (I see that you are a college student...), you will define cigarettes according to the field of your specialization. This is a college paper, not a high-school paper. It is a research paper. This means that you need to do research, again through the eyes of the field in which you specialize.
Your paper could be scientific, or it could be sociological or psychological. Or it could be all of the above. It is up to you to follow a specific organization of ideas. Your paper will be unique for that matter.
