This is a great question and one that is important. However, I will say right from the beginning, this is not going to be easy. To address the needs to the mentally ill is difficult. In light of this, I will make a few suggestions.

First, we need to educate the public about mentally ill people. We, as the public, know surprisingly little about various mental disorders, such as bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia. Hence, it would be good to teach on this topic at public schools and create easily assessable booklets and websites that people can go to for resources.

Second, the government should financially support social workers in this area. Also additional training, when necessary, would also be a good step.

Third, there should also be a hot-line for emergencies. When it comes to mental problems, often there are emergencies. If we do even a few of these things, it will help the mentally ill and help social workers.
