How can developing alternative fuels benefit the environment from high amounts of atmospheric carbon?
Carbon dioxide, one of the main sources of atmospheric carbon, helps to trap heat being radiated from the earth. Make an argument for how developing alternative fuels benefit the environment from large amounts of atmospheric carbon.
Another important alternative fuel is hydrogen. A fuel cell can be used to convert hydrogen's chemical energy into mechanical energy. This is achieved by combining it with oxygen inside the fuel cell, to run an electric motor. The good thing about this process is that if hydrogen vehicles can be produced at a lower cost in the future, it will cut down on greenhouse gases. The waste product produced when hydrogen is used as fuel is water. The process of electrolysis can separate water into hydrogen and oxygen and this hydrogen can be used as the fuel source inside the fuel cell. Hydrogen is a renewable resource however, fuel cells are currently using fossil fuels which still generate greenhouse gases. Therefore, the environment will benefit in the future if hydrogen as a fuel becomes more widespread and its cost becomes affordable in terms of carbon emissions decreasing.
Using alternative fuel sources could lower the amount of carbon dioxide release into atmosphere because we (as humans) emit the most greenhouse gases into the environment. Greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide, are naturally emitted into the environment. However, the amount of greenhouse gases has increased through beginning of the industrial revolution. Alternative fuels can lower the amount of carbon dioxide released into environment by using electricity (from non-fossil fuel sources) and windpower. Also, solar power is another example alternate fuel source. These fuel sources don't emit greenhouse gasses into the atomsphere. This lowers the amount of human emittance of fossil fuels. There is no way you can elliminate the release of greenhouse gasses completely from the environment, but we can lower the amount that is released by using fossil fuels.
