Check the link above for points on how to compare any two things--characters, works of literature, objects, etc.  It will prove very helpful to you in your assignment.

Also, with these two stories, you will want to focus on the main characters, events, themes.  Make a chart or other graphic organizer where you write down all the similarities first.  You might try a big "Y" chart...on one side of the "Y" write the title of one story and the things that stick out most to you about it.  On the other side of the "Y" focus on the other story.  When you get to the trunk of the "Y" where both sides come together, list the things that are alike in both.  These will be the main points of your essay.

Both stories have women for main characters and these characters are responsible for the events in the story.  Both stories involve deaths of someone or several someones.  Both stories involve an old southern plantation and take place in the south.  What other similarities can you find?
