How is Bob Ewell viewed as uneducated and ignorant in To Kill a Mockingbird'?
I am writing an essay on Bob Ewell, and would very much appreciate if you could give me around 5 quotes which relate to him being stupid and ignorant.
Atticus Finch didn't have a hard time showing how ignorant and crude Bob Ewell was during his cross-examination of him during the Tom Robinson trial. Bob's actions after the trial only solidified his family's place as
... the disgrace of Maycomb for three generations.
Judge Taylor was forced to read the riot act to the spectators in the courtroom following Ewell's accusation that he had seen "that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella." The judge cautioned Bob, too, but
Mr. Ewell reminded me of a deaf-mute. I was sure he had never heard the words that Judge Taylor directed at him--his mouth struggled silently with them--
When the prosecutor, Horace Gilmer, asked Bob if he was ambidextrous, Bob replied,
"I most positively am not, I can use one hand good as the other..."
Jem seemed to be having a quiet fit.
Bob was poorly educated and saw no need for his children to go to school; they only attended the first day each year and then stayed at home. He drank up his weekly welfare check, leaving his family to fend for themselves. When Bob was finally able to acquire a job, he lost it "in a matter of days."
... he was the only man I ever heard of who was fired from the WPA for laziness...
Bob blamed Atticus for "getting" his job, although Atticus had nothing to do with it. Bob was also an incompetent prowler, nearly being shot when Judge Taylor heard suspicious sounds outside his house one night.
