Both anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are eating disorders. For people who have either one of the disorders they are affected by the focus on food and weight. They both can cause serious harm and even death. They are both more prevalent in females but can also affect males. Body image is a key factor in the person engaging in the behavior of both disorders.
In addition, the treatment for both disorders usually encompasses psychotherapy, family or partner therapy, nutrition counseling, and in many cases medication. The disorders often affect people between the ages of 14- 30, but with the increased pressure to be thin. Younger children are now having eating disorders at an earlier age.
